Population Explorer standardizes number formatting to ensure clarity, comparability, and usability across exports and dashboards. All rounding follows deterministic rules, and all separators follow international readability norms.

Rounding Rules

• Population totals: Rounded to nearest whole number.

• Density: Rounded to 1 decimal place.

• Area: Rounded to 2 decimals.

• Ratios: Rounded to 2 decimals.

• Income: Rounded to nearest hundred.

Separator Rules

• Thousands: Comma (12,345).

• Decimals: Dot (12.3).

• Exports: Locale-neutral CSV with “.” decimals and “,” thousands.

Why This Matters

Consistent formatting avoids misinterpretation across global teams and ensures reproducibility in exports and reports.
