Export polygons, markers, and folders to Excel, KML, or KMZ formats from the PopEx UI for sharing and analysis.
Export Your Data from Population Explorer
Population Explorer makes it easy to export your shapes, markers, and folders for use in other applications. You can export to Excel, KML, or KMZ depending on whether you need tabular outputs or GIS-ready geometry files.
Prerequisites
An active PopEx account (any plan).
At least one folder containing shapes or markers.
Ensure geometry is not overly complex, or exports may fail.
Steps
Select a folder, polygon, or marker in the left drawer.
Click Export from the context menu.
Choose your preferred format:
Excel — Full metrics for polygons. Folders export with a dissolved union tab plus per-shape tabs.
KML/KMZ — Geometry only, compatible with tools like QGIS or Google Earth.
Confirm and download the file.
Verification
Open Excel files to confirm tabs are created correctly (unioned results and individual shapes).
Open KML/KMZ in a GIS tool (Google Earth, QGIS) to confirm geometries are preserved.
Ensure numeric values (population, density, etc.) display with separators and units.
Common Errors
Export failed → too complex: Large or multipart KML/KMZ geometries may exceed limits.
Empty export: Ensure you selected at least one shape or folder.
Excel missing income metrics: Income is not currently included in Excel exports (see roadmap).
